Promote sports spirit, let sports change life, and integrate sports culture into life —College of International Education organized a sharing session on “Chinese ancient and modern popular sports” for Chinese and international students

On the afternoon of Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the College of International Education held a sharing session on Marvelous Chinese Sports for Chinese and international students from all over the world, introducing the unique and popular sports in Chinese history sports. Through the exchange, the sports spirit is promoted, and the concept of “sportscanenhance physical fitness and change life” is transmitted to the international students, guiding them to integrate the sports culture of self-control and self-improvement into their lifeand studies.

This sharing session focuses on the interesting sports in China from ancient times to the present. As early as the Warring States period, the entertainingCujugame was popular among Chinese folks. It has been included in the first batch of the national intangible cultural heritage list approved by the State Council.TheChuiwanevent was first recorded in the bookThe Classic of Chuiwanin the 19th year of Yuan Shizu to the Yuan Dynasty, which was also a kind of sports event in ancient China that used a stick to hit the ball into the hole.Dragon boat raceis one of the most important festival folk activities of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, and it is also a folk competition event commemorating the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. The event also shared with the international students the popular winter sports in China, such as figure skating, freestyle ski jumping and short track speed skating. In addition, Gu Ailing, the Chinese Winter Olympic gold medalist, was also specially introduced.

NZOUNGOU JEFFERSON PRINCE AMOUR, an international student from Congo, said,I am a football fan. I found that the ancient Chinese sport Cuju has many similarities with football, which is very interesting.

The sharing session not only enhanced the friendship between international students and Chinese students, but also improved the understanding of ancient Chinese sports and development. Moreover, itmade international students understand that sports can not only enhance physical fitness, but also adjust theirattitudetolife and enrich theirspiritual connotation. It is hopedthat international students can show a more confident and upright postureas membersof Shanghai Business School.
