On April 9, 2024, Ambassador to Uruguay Huang Yazhong attended the online Exchange Conference on the Impact of the New Silk Road on Shanghai and Uruguay. Ambassador Loedel, Director of the Office of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Uruguay, President Wu Zhong of Shanghai Business School, and Director De Leon of Centro de Estudios de Paysandú attended the Conference.

Ambassador Huang firstly congratulated the activity success, and expressed that upon the successful meeting between the heads of state of China and Uruguay last November, who jointly witnessed the signing of the Belt and Road Cooperation Plan and other cooperation documents, China and Uruguay B & A cooperation has entered a new stage of high-quality development, injected strong impetus into the practical cooperation between the two countries, and brought real benefits to the two peoples.

Ambassador Loedel stated in his speech that Uruguay is one of the first South American countries to support the Belt and Road initiative, and the first MERCOSUR country to sign a memorandum of understanding with China to jointly build the Belt and Road. Uruguay is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in investment and trade, education and technology, and continuously inject new vitality into the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uruguay.
