On the afternoon of June 13th, the opening ceremony for the Seminar on Green Circular Economy and Sustainable Development for Belt and Road Countries, hosted by Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai), was conducted successfully. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Chen Wei, Deputy Executive Dean of International Education College and Deputy Director of MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai), and Ms. Huangfu Hairong, Secretary General of Shanghai Association of International Economic & Technological Cooperation, who both addressed the attendees.
As the world’s largest developing country, China is dedicated to the concept of the Community of a Shared Future for Mankind, firmly embracing multilateralism and initiating the Global Development Initiative. China deepens practical cooperation and actively engages in global environmental and climate governance, contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This commitment is directed towards propelling global sustainable development and jointly building a community with a shared future for humanity and a prosperous, clean, and beautiful world. The Seminar, aligned with the Community of a Shared Future for Mankind, shares China’s key insights and strategies on green circular economy and sustainable development, and further promotes participating countries to create a better future for mankind and to achieve coordinated sustainable development in economy, social and environment terms.
Mr. Chen Wei said that China’s active promotion of green and low-carbon development is a key strategy in engaging with global governance and build a Community of a Shared Future for Mankind. The white paper China’s Green Development in the New Era not only summarizes and publicizes the practice and effectiveness of China’s green development in the past decade, but also demonstrates China’s firm determination to continuously push forward green development and to build a Community of a Shared Future for Mankind together with other countries. He hopes that this Seminar could build a sharing and exchange platform for the participants and provide reference for green circular economy and sustainable development in the participating countries.
Ms. Huangfu Hairong said that with the accelerated pace of global green transformation, Chinese enterprises have been continuously deepening their ESG management concepts. China’s industry associations have responded to the global trend of sustainable development, promoted the dissemination and practice of ESG concepts and carried out a series of works to promote sustainable development. The Seminar highlights the great importance that the Chinese government attaches to the green and sustainable development of the Belt and Road, and provides important guidance for the future cooperation among the Belt and Road countries. It is hoped that all the fellow participants will contribute to the high-quality co-construction of the Belt and Road.
On behalf of the fellow participants, Ms. Olen Liesel Thompson, Outreach Director of the Administrative Office of the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, said in her speech that the Seminar focuses on green circular economy and sustainable development, which is highly consistent with the academic background of the fellow participants, and provides a platform for discussing the ecological challenges and green innovations. She hopes that the Seminar would help promote and establish the concept of eco-responsibility among the participating countries and contribute to the improvement of the global environment towards a brighter and more sustainable future.
The 14-day Seminar on Green Circular Economy and Sustainable Development for Belt and Road Countries will be attended by 19 participants from 7 countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Uzbekistan. The Seminar will organize a visit to Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province.
