Our University Hosts Opening Ceremonies of Three Seminars including Seminar on Management and Application of Modern Rail Transit for Developing Countries

On the afternoon of June 8, 2022 (GMT+8), the opening ceremonies for 3 seminars, namely, Seminar on Management and Application of Modern Rail Transit for Developing Countries, Seminar on Maritime Transport Management for Developing Countries, Seminar on Business Trade Investment and Risk Management for Developing Countries, hosted by Ministry of Commerce and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) were held online. Fang Meng from the Foreign Economics and Cooperation Division of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and Chen Wei, executive vice dean of International Education College of Shanghai Business School attended the opening ceremony. Feng Shujun, chief expert and researcher of the Think Tank Center of SBS, Xu Ming, professor of Donghua University, and Yao Weiqun, Executive Dean of the Strategic Research Institute of the International Trade Center of SUIBE, delivered speeches as expert representatives.

Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out at the High-level Dialogue on Global Development that development is a timeless theme for humanity. Over the years, developing countries have worked unremittingly to explore development paths suited to their national realities and to pursue economic and social development. Such efforts have produced remarkable outcomes. This is an age rife with challenges, but it is also an age full of hope. We must get a good grasp of the overarching development trend in the world, firm up confidence, and act in unison and with great motivation to promote global development and foster a development paradigm featuring benefits for all, balance, coordination, inclusiveness, win-win cooperation and common prosperity. The three seminars are held as a pragmatic move to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation among developing countries, aiming to enhance the construction capabilities of China and other developing countries in the fields of management and application of modern rail transit, maritime transport management, business trade investment and risk management, to promote international development cooperation.

Fang Meng said that as the largest developing country, China has put forward a series of new development concepts and new measures.The “Belt and Road” initiative proposed by China has benefited major developing countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. At the same time, China upholds the correct concept of justice and interests, and strives to do a good job of solidarity, cooperation and exchanges with developing countries. It is hoped that China's series of policy measures can bring some inspiration to the capacity building of officials in developing countries.

Chen Wei said that China always pays attention to and supports the cause of improving people's livelihood and seeking development in other developing countries, and will strengthen and deepen the solidarity and cooperation with the vast number of developing countries. The three seminars are led by the promotion of building a community with a shared future for mankind, aim to break the shackles of the epidemic and provides new development opportunities for enhancing the well-being of people in all countries. As the organizer of the seminar, our university investigated and discussed the different needs of participants in order to help them understand the cases with Chinese characteristics and the accumulated experience, develop new ideas and methods to promote international cooperation and propose suggestions for the development of professional fields according to the state of their own countries.

Feng Shujun, Xu Ming and Yao Weigun, as expert representatives, made brief presentations on China's social and economic development, especially in the fields of management and application of modern rail transit, maritime transport management, business trade investment and risk management. They expressed China's sincere desire to share its development experience, and they will conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions with the participants from theory to practice.

Mr. Nader (Mohammad Majed) A. Shahrouri, Chief Operating Officer of Jordan Seven Seas Logistics Co., Ms. Eam Runthearin, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, and Mr. Judith Masikati, Chief Financial Officer of Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts, and Recreation of Zimbabwe, spoke as participant representatives. On behalf of all the participants, they expressed their sincere gratitude to the project organizer and the meticulous preparation for the seminars, and hoped that through the three-week study, they could better understand China's development in related fields and thus fully learn from China's practical experience.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, the people of China and developing countries have been supporting and helping each other. The relationship between China and developing countries has continued to improve amid the test of COVID-19. China and the vast number of developing countries have united to help each other fight the pandemic, overcome difficulties and strive for common development. Our university held online seminars for international business officials, vividly interpreting "close friends from a distant land" idiom with actions and enriched the connotation of the community of shared future for mankind.

The three seminars lasted 21 days and were attended by 74 government officials from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Mauritius, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Botswana, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Gambia, South Africa, Jordan and other countries.
