On the afternoon of September 9, 2022,theCollege of International Education organizeda training session for international student counselors/classteachers.Ding Jie, Deputy Director of the International Student Affairs Office of Fudan University, wasinvited as the guest trainer. Dai Ying, Vice Dean oftheCollege, presided over the meeting,which was attended by allstafffromtheInternational Students Office and counselors/class teachers fromsecond-levelcollegesof SBS.
Director Ding launchedthetraining on three topics: firstly, the role and mission ofworkingstaff responsible for international students in the new era; secondly, the ability and quality of international student counselors; and thirdly, the work responsibilities of international student counselors.Shepointed out that the building of the Community with a Shared Future for Mankind proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping is an important strategic idea at present and an important guideline for our work. The counselors/class teachers are the organizers, practitioners and instructors of ideological and cultural education and management. In addition to undertaking responsibilities as teachers,theyshould care about, serve, and help international students grow, and more importantly, guide international students to correctly understand the development trend of the world and China.They must alsofully understand their responsibilities at work and continuously improve their abilities, so as to better carry out related work.
At the meeting, the counselors/classteachersfromthesecond-levelcolleges also discussed the problems encountered in the management of international studentsandcommunicated withDing, such as: how to overcome language barriers, how to overcome cultural differences, how to carry out class meetings according to the characteristics of international students and other related issues. Ding, combined withheryears of work and practical experience, gave highly-targeted suggestions and tipsabout the ways of working and precautionsto the participants in a simpleway.
The training session not only improved the ability and quality of international student counselors/class teachers, but also strengthened the communication between the College of International Education and thesecond-levelcolleges, and it further laid a solid foundation for building a professional international student management team.
